For the non-techies: “a rollback” or “rolling back” is undoing an addition to the codebase that you made. Engineers know how to easily do that because it requires engineering tooling that they use on a daily basis. Managers? That’s not in their skillset.
What does the future hold for AI? In early 2023, I was talking with a friend who was already existentially dreading the future due to AI. I reassured the friend that I was not worried at all by anything close to the worst case scenario for society, based on how well it works, if “works” is even the best word to use. I can’t believe it’s been 3 years later, and the prevailing narrative hasn’t changed. But hey, neither has my take. I don’t want to be more vocal or specific than that, but I can say that I find myself completely agreeing with everything Ed Zitron has been saying interviews. And laughing: he always finds new creative ways to describe what’s going on in hilarious ways. You could watch this interview from 2 days ago or this one from a year ago, or read his blog post “Rot Com Economy” from 2 years ago, and you’ll get a clear, consistent, entertaining perspective (that’s also nuanced and fair, IMO). The main change I’ve seen is how most people outside our Silicon Valley bubble have soured greatly on AI. (Read the comments on the video, and it feels like a board of testimonials or group therapy.) Lastly, this is the analogy that does better at getting to the heart of the truth than anything you’re hearing in the news right now.
I can reassure you with facts and logic, but I can’t be your financial advisor. Protect yourself accordingly.
