I’m happy that Unicode’s first Unicode Technology Workshop a month ago went well. The video recordings from the event are still being processed, but should be up soon. I’m looking forward to sending out my presentation to people, and working on a prototype for Malayalam next (and who knows what’s after, Devanagari? Balinese?) The event was so good that I defied my instincts and posted something on a social media platform (LinkedIn) after it was over:
The Unicode Technology Workshop this past Tuesday & Wednesday was wonderful. It was great to see internationalization community regulars and lots of new faces, including students and people from new organizations. Co-organizing was a lot of work, but it felt rewarding to see the outcome, especially hearing the positive feedback from the attendees.
I’m extra grateful for the opportunity to present on the topic of how we can greatly improve virtual keyboards for Indic & other abugida scripts, and why it’s much important to a lot more people than we realize. Being able to get these ideas in front of influential experts of internationalization & localization is invaluable, and I hope it leads to changes in the future that will affect many people around the world. It was moving & reassuring to hear the strong positive feedback from the audience after the presentation.
